Australia Post upgrades parcel facilities

Australia Post announced that it has opened its upgraded Sydney, Australia, Chullora parcel facility. The upgrade is part of AU$2bn of investment in capability across the country to increase capacity in time for the holiday season.

The improvement to the Chullora facility includes equipment and technology that is expected to double processing capacity, improve reliability, provide greater tracking and bolster employee safety. Australia Post also stated that a similar upgrade will be completed at its Melbourne, Australia, parcel facility at Sunshine West by December 2015.

Australia Post’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Fahour said, “Our expansion programme has not only delivered major safety, productivity and cost improvements to our parcel service, it has more than doubled our capacity at our two largest facilities. We can now handle around 1.3m items through these facilities per day, up from 520,000.”
