Amazon has announced that it plans to take on 80,000 seasonal staff across its US network of fulfilment and sortation centres over the 2014 holiday season in order to meet an increase in customer demand.
“So far this year, we have converted more than 10,000 seasonal employees in the US into regular, full-time roles and we’re looking forward to converting thousands more across our growing network of fulfilment and sortation centres after this holiday season,” said Mike Roth, Amazon’s Vice President of North America operations.
Amazon has more than 50 fulfilment centres in the US and expects to have more than 15 sortation centres by the end of 2014. Amazon states that its network of sortation centres is fuelling a range of innovations like Sunday delivery, later cut-off ordering times for customers and the ability to control packages deeper into the delivery process.
