NYK to form automotive JV in Myanmar

NYK and Silverbird Auto Logistics Ltd., a Myanmar-based logistics company, announced that they intend to start an inland transportation service in Myanmar for finished automobiles. The service will be implemented through a joint venture agreement with the Phee Group, a shipping agency, which is expected to be completed in 2015.

The Myanmar automobile market, which NYK states had traditionally been dominated by used-car imports from Japan, changed dramatically in 2014 with the rapid increase of new-car imports from numerous countries. NYK is making efforts to expand the company’s logistics services within the country to seize on this demand for services.

NYK restarted its pure car carrier service to Yangon in 2011 and this service is currently offered twice a month. NYK also offers its customers in Myanmar logistics services that include storage, pre delivery inspection, and customs clearance.
